Marriott to open Autograph Collection Safari Camp hotel in Tanzania

Marriott has signed an agreement to open the world’s first Autograph Collection safari camp. Mapito Safari Camp is set to debut in Q3 2025, located in Tanzania’s Serengeti wilderness near the Fort Ikoma gate of Serengeti National Park. Positioned along the Great Migration route, the ideal time to visit will be from May to July.

The camp will feature 16 tented suites, including a two-bedroom villa. Each suite will offer an outdoor deck, fire pit, and a retractable roof for open-air stargazing — a first for the region. Guests can also look forward to a spa, fitness center, swimming pool, and several dining options. The design will draw inspiration from the surrounding landscape and local Ikoma culture.

The property isn’t yet bookable, so details remain limited, including whether it will operate as an all-inclusive (we suspect it will, but that’s still unclear). We’ll have to wait and see how pricey the camp will be, both in terms of points and cash — it’s safe to assume it won’t come cheap!

Of course, we only have a few renderings so far, but the property sounds very promising and is a strong addition to the Marriott Bonvoy portfolio.

Back in 2023, we saw the opening of the JW Marriott Masai Mara, Marriott’s first safari property of its kind. Now, two more Marriott properties are coming to Masai Mara: a Ritz-Carlton expected to open in the coming months and a second JW Marriott planned for 2026.

We have to say, the Autograph Collection branding for Mapito Safari Camp makes a lot more sense to us than the JW Marriott branding used for the other safari camps, given what most travelers typically associate with JW Marriott.

Conclusion

Mapito Safari Camp is slated to open in Q3 2025 as part of Marriott’s Autograph Collection. The 16-tent property will be located in Tanzania’s Serengeti. Rooms aren’t available to book yet, and we imagine a stay here won’t be inexpensive, considering the limited number of accommodations and the general cost of safaris. We’ll be sure to post an update once bookings open.
